Are we able to search the hymnal by lyric keyword? In which box would we enter the keyword?

Yes. The hymn entry into the matrix provides a concordance with twelve contextual categories into which key words can be placed.

I find the contextual-category-concordance cumbersome. Someone has clearly gone to a great deal of trouble to create it, but when I want to find a hymn about children, I have go guess which category the writer would expect me to look in. I would find it more useful to be able to type in a word and see titles of all hymns in which that word appears, and let me decide which ones are relevant to my search.

I have not found the concordance helpful since the categories do not line up with topical headings in the hymnal. While they are theologically significant categories, I find that they do not suggest enough specificity for searching to be efficient. If there were some way to know or to access a sub-categorization, it would be very helpful.

Prompts have been added to the HymnCordance categories suggesting appropriate input. This feature requires some practice, but will pay off in locating texts that otherwise would not come to mind. The topical search is simpler but does not reveal subtle content. View the help video on the HymnCordance screen for a demonstration.
